SPDG Cohort 2.0 - 2018-2020 and Beyond

Strand 1 SPDG 2.0 Participating Districts and Facilitators – 2018/19

Strand 1: During the 2018-2019 school year, the TN SPDG grant partners provided professional development to teachers and administrators from 22 districts across the State to increase access to high-quality core instruction. Participants learned interactively about the importance of teacher mindset, a safe and empowering classroom climate, elements of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and how to envision core instruction to meet the differentiated needs of each and every student.

Strand 2: During the 2019-2020 school year, the TN SPDG grant partners will provide professional development to teachers and administrators from these same districts on how to provide increasingly intensive intervention within an optimal learning environment. Participants will dig deeply into all types of reading assessments (screening, diagnostic, progress monitoring) in order to better pinpoint (diagnose) the specific reading needs of the student, and then with this information, how to intervene in powerful and transformative way.

SPDG Facilitators

Each Tennessee school district selected to participate in the State Personnel Development Grant works with SPDG Facilitators to support their educators in adopting or deepening educational practices that allow every Tennessee student to reach his or her potential. As a part of this process, SPDG Districts support their SPDG Facilitator in conducting professional development workshops and Communities of Practice sessions for district personnel in selected schools.

SPDG Cohort 1.0 2016-2018 and Beyond

SPDG 1.0 Participating Districts and Facilitators 2016-2018 and Beyond

SPDG 1.0 Strands 1 & 2: During the 2016-2017 school year, the TN SPDG grant partners provided professional development to teachers and administrators to increase access to the core curriculum through Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and other support for students with learning differences. Communities of Practice were provided to support educators as they developed enhanced proficiency to increase access to core instruction for all students. During 2017-2018, SPDG participating special educators and supervisors received extensive training centered around making special education the most intensive intervention, with a focus on reading foundations, assessment, and multi-sensory instructional strategies. Communities of Practice and additional training were provided throughout the year to help support educators as they developed new and enhanced skills to assist their students in reaching their potential.

SPDG 1.0 Year 3 and Beyond: Beginning 2018, districts from across will continue their work to address the needs of all students through the integration of differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, and effective use of data-based interventions. These districts will continue with Strand 1 implementation, using the revised and more interactive Strand 1 materials and activities (SPDG 2.0), and some districts will begin expansion of Strand 2 with a focus on providing increasingly intensive interventions.
